Artist Biography

Chelsea Grace Weisel

I started painting at age three. In fact, when I was growing up, my breakfasts were often preceded by a morning art session at the kitchen table. The upside-down noses and scribbled rainbows I painted then were the beginning of a passion.

I attended a Waldorf school from kindergarten through high school where I incorporated art into each subject--experimenting with fiber arts, sculpture, metal work, and watercolor techniques.

At Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, a minor in studio art supported and enhanced the rest of my academic studies.  The professors in those classes encouraged me to learn from the masters and study their techniques. The impressionist painters specifically taught me invaluable lessons on the use of color, brush technique, and the contrast of shadows and highlights. Painters like Monet, Pissarro, and Renoir continue to be my secret teachers, their skillful use of color and lively imagery the inspiration for my artwork.

Although I might not paint before breakfast these days, I am just as excited to get out my paints and paper as I was at age three. This country, (and world!) is teeming with beauty and I can't wait to paint it!
